Benefits of a Whole Home Water Filtration System

There are many benefits to having a whole home water filtration system installed. Pristine is a certified installer for Aquasana water filtration systems, whose whole home filtration products are certified by NSF to remove 97% of the chlorine in your water. What are the effects of additional pollutants within your water system, and why is a whole home water filtration system better than other options? There are six benefits listed below the video.

  01

Drinking Water

The drinking water in your home may look pure, but all kinds of pollutants may still pass through your taps. The whole home water filtration systems we provide are specially designed to remove contaminants and foul odors within drinking water. Get water that doesn’t just look good, but also tastes good and is good.

  02

Shower Water

Did you know that you breathe in the contents of evaporating water while you shower? Shower steam can include contaminants like chlorine found within unfiltered municipal water. It’s likely that you’re absorbing these pollutants into your skin and hair. By contrast, filtered shower water can result in softer hair and longer lasting color.

  03

Bathtub Water

The water that enters into your bathtub can contain the same contaminants as shower water. If you have children or pets you bathe in the tub, you’ll want to protect them as well. A showerhead filter can only do so much. Only a whole home system can filter water within every tap of your home.

  04

Sink Water

Hand washing goes along with hygiene as a part of total health and we wash our hands A LOT. If your water has traces of bacteria, you may not be getting your hands truly clean. Water filtration can reduce contaminants such as pesticides, lead, mercury and more.

  05

Air (Evaporation)

Steam from the shower or the dishwasher means evaporating water is entering the air you breathe every day. Filtering your water can improve the air quality in your home, removing the chlorine before it enters your air.

  06

Appliances

Your refrigerator, dishwasher and washing machine are also exposed to whatever is in your water. Filtering your water can reduce corrosion and scale build up extending the life of your appliances. Your water also affects your clothes! Cleaner water allows you to use less detergent and can give your clothes brighter colors and longer life. Saving you time and money.

Why Water Filtration Systems are Important

Installing a Water FIltration SystemWe know the water districts of Orange County do everything in their power to treat your water to ensure it is safe to drink and bathe in. However, there are always some contaminants that show up in the annual water reports. The contaminants in the water are kept below the amount required. However, the contaminants are still in the water in traceable amounts. The water that is sourced for the city of Irvine comes from a number of different sources that change throughout the year. The volume of contaminants can vary drastically depending upon where the water is coming from at any given time. Additionally, once water leaves the water treatment facility, the water is more susceptible to pickup contaminants on its way to a property.

Lead – Lead is one of the biggest contaminants to be concerned about in water. Lead is a heavy metal that can be found in older plumbing pipes. Lead can cause kidney damage, brain damage, and can lower the IQ of a child even in small doses. Lead must be tested for at the final destination of the water as it is usually introduced to water through older pipes located directly outside of residences. According to the Irvine Water District, the last lead tests conducted at residential taps only included 67 residences and no schools. If 15 parts per billion are detected, it is considered an "action level" amount. The last test of 67 residences had 5 parts per billion. Considering the size of Irvine and number of buildings, 67 residences is a very small test sample. Additionally, water contaminant volumes can change rapidly.

Hexavalent Chromium (Chromium-6) – This is a metal that is considered extremely toxic. This metal appears in trace amounts in the most recent water report for Irvine. This cancer causing contaminant has been found in higher doses than recommended levels in the water supply for over 67% of all Americans. Doing a quick online search for Chromium-6 will tell you all you need to know about the dangers of this toxin and why you should do as much as you can to reduce potential exposure.

Unregulated Contaminants – Some contaminants that are found in water are not considered dangerous enough to be regulated, but we certainly would not recommend consuming some of them. Chloramine is the primary disinfectant used to treat water in Irvine. What is Chloramine you ask? Chloramine is a combination of chlorine and ammonia. Yes, the same chlorine you would find in pools and ammonia used in cleaning products. The quantities that remain in your water are stated to be safe to drink. However, the quantity of chloramines in samples can vary greatly. Consuming chlorine can have long term effects on your health. Other unregulated contaminants found in high quantities such as calcium and magnesium in Irvine's water can damage your hair and skin.

PFAS – Finally, it is important to take note of the fact that some highly toxic chemicals are now just being located in Orange County water sources. Perfluoroalkyl and Polyfluoroalkyl (PFAS for short) are chemicals that are found in manufacturing and household chemicals. They are highly toxic and referred to as "forever chemicals" because once they are ingested they stay in your body forever. Only a small number of wells in Southern California have been tested for PFAS, but Anaheim was one city that was forced to shut down 3 drinking wells due to the presence of elevated PFAS. Why the concern about these chemicals? PFAS have been linked directly to kidney cancer, testicular cancer, thyroid disease, and high cholesterol. The EPA has stated that there is no level of PFAS that can be determined as safe. Sewage treatment plants have no way of treating their water for PFAS at this time. Therefore, they simply pass the water through system. If the local water district is forced to start treating their water for the PFAS contaminant, water bills may increase by 15% or more. Leaving the water purification process solely up to the local water municipality, will inevitably result in you and your loved ones consuming contaminants that could have otherwise been removed. The local municipalities have not traced the sources of these new contaminants and have no immediate solution to these cancer causing toxins.
